I am happy to share an update with you today about the massive challenge I took on nearly three weeks ago with the 21-Day Post-it® Brand Productivity Challenge! My personal goals were to get my Clean & Colorful Kitchen procedures documented and delegated so I could get back to my meditation and yoga practice and be a more purpose driven person over all. Year to date, I’ve felt as if I’m just taking on task after task after task with no light at the end of the tunnel. I’ve got some good news and some “work-in-progress” news as well.
The Productivity Challenge
Let me give you a little refresher on the massive challenge I set out to achieve. On March 6th, I officially opened the Clean & Colorful Kitchen in San Diego. We are a healthy food delivery service, on a mission to help everybody not just eat more, but enjoy how delicious veggies can be and experience the health benefits that come with a diet high in fresh, local, unprocessed produce.
Each week, we pick up about 200 pounds of veggies and convert them into about 180 delicious meals. You can imagine, this is a pretty crazy undertaking given my background is in nutrition and coaching, not food production.
We have built the kitchen operation from scratch, with me doing every-single-job in the entire operation. This is ok when you’re cooking for 2 people. Not 20 and not even remotely feasible to grow to a business to 200 and beyond. I needed to:
- Define tasks and departments
- Create job descriptions
- Fill the positions
- Train the employees
- And let go…Zen out and stop stressing
The 21-Day Post-it® Brand Productivity Challenge could not have possibly come at a better time! I was able to easily record all the things that need to happen in order for raw veggies to be converted to delicious meals and delivered to the doors of our clients. I have no idea how else I could have organized all this data if I did not have my bright colored Post-it® Super Sticky Notes from the Miami Collection!
I was also inspired by Chef Russell Jackson, a Post-it® Brand productivity expert. Post-it® Brand partnered with four professionals in a variety of industries to see what tools they use to be productive, tackle their to-do lists and achieve their goals. Check out his video here. He credits Post-it® Notes as being the most straightforward, hammer and nail tool in his life when it comes to productivity and organization and I could not agree more!
The Good News!
Honestly, I am really happy with how much I got done in 21-Days! The first success is that I was able to take all those tasks and create three “departments” in the organization and then established all the roles we’d need to grow this company through phase 1. I drafted an org chart and 5 job descriptions.
Then, the actual really amazing part is that I was able to actually hire people for those positions and now we have our first core CCK Team and that feels really incredible! We are clear on our mission and excited to take #theveggiemovement to the next level!
The Work-in Progress News…
We are still very much in training and I’m still doing a lot of admin work. This will be tricky for me to really turn over as I’m an Ingenious Juggler according to the Post-it® Brand Productivity Tool (a quick quiz to help you find out what type of planner you are), which means that delegation is hard for me!
However, I feel like in good time I’ll be able to let go of more and more so I can keep my eye on the bigger picture and really make an impact with this company. I did however meditate today and also made it to yoga, so I feel like I have come a long way in a short period of time thanks to this 21-Day Post-it® Brand Productivity Challenge.
After all, did you know that 75 percent of Americans skip doing something for themselves every week because they didn’t adequately plan or allow enough time for it?**
Still So Stoked to have Post-it® Products in the Kitchen!
I ended up with way more Post-it® Super Sticky Notes than I really needed for the productivity challenge but that is a really good thing! We now use them as a part of our weekly operation for recipe execution.
Depending on how many orders we have each week, and who’s working in the kitchen, our recipes and workflow changes a bit. We use these to document any particular modifications for each cook shift. We also cook one meal from each of the 5 colors, so the different colored Post-it® Super Sticky Notes is very helpful when we’re looking for a particular recipe.
