Dr. Carole Griggs is an amazing person to know. I met her through mutual friends and knew she worked in the holistic nutrition space, but it wasn’t until recently that I learned at what capacity. In fact, holistic nutrition and wellness coaching are only a small fraction of what Dr. Carole brings to the table. She is also an international speaker, teacher, coach, university professor, writer, and pioneer and leader in the areas of integrative Wellness and Nutrition, and Conscious Awareness (non-duality). You can read her full bio and a few more bits below or on her webpage, www.drcarolegriggs.com. Needless to say, I’m super stoked she’s providing such valuable content for Eat. Drink & be Skinny. Today, she’s giving us a little background information on detoxification and cleansing. Enjoy!
Have you ever felt like you put in the concerted effort to “eat healthy”, go to the gym to workout, minimize excessive consumption, and yet you feel like no matter what you do you can’t seem to lose the pounds you really want? Or even if you have lost the pounds, perhaps it’s still a constant yo-yo struggle to keep the weight off? Well, if your liver is overloaded with impurities and isn’t detoxifying as well as it should, or your digestion isn’t breaking food down, processing, and eliminating very well, your battle for a sustainable healthy body will continue to be an issue.
What’s the point of Detoxification and Cleansing?
The body is self-healing and self-regulating given that it is free of interference and is properly nourished. Over time, toxins build up in the body from pollutants in the environment, heavy metals, pesticides, chemicals, plastics, cosmetics, artificial sweeteners, processed foods, GMO’s, etc.. the list goes on. One of the ways the liver deals with impurities is to increase body fat to take in these toxins to protect the body from their destructive influence, and allow vital organs to fluidly keep the body functioning. The more toxic the body is, the more fat cells are created to store these unwanted invaders to keep you alive.
On top of this, burning body fat with a heavy amount of toxins is not the most efficient fuel for the body to burn, so ridding the body of stored toxins is sometimes not an easy feat. It doesn’t take long for this to cause huge weight gain, headaches, gas/bloating, mood swings, low energy, irritability, insomnia, food cravings, etc. Although exercise is an essential element to overall health and well-being, reducing toxicity in the body certainly cannot be dealt with through exercise and “eating healthy” alone.
Cleansing and purifying the body through detoxification and heavy metal elimination about every 6 months is a great way to keep the toxic load at a minimum, flushing the body of these impurities and allowing the body to function as it should – like a well-oiled machine. We are bombarded with toxins everywhere we go, with almost everything we eat and drink, and everything we breathe into our lungs. Perhaps it’s time to get rid of all the unwanted invaders in your body, and allow the body to find its natural weight, energy level, and innate vitality.
