I don’t know about you, but many things have caught up with me these past few weeks and months and I am just not thrilled with myself, my performance and my weight. Despite my knowledge and discipline – I have gained a few pounds. When excuses run dry, the number on the scale is staring you back in the face and you just don’t like the reflection in the mirror as much as you did before — it’s time to get serious. If you’re in this boat too, read on my friend because I have a few tricks up my sleeve that are perking me up with inspiration as I write this!
I will be honest, I’m a little frustrated, because I should know better. But at the same time, I’m incredibly optimistic that by committing to some structure for the next few weeks, I can make the quick weight loss a reality and get back to my ideal race weight, smile at the scale, and stop deleting so many pictures that are just “bad angels.” Are you with me?!
Life is a toxic process one way or another. Everybody goes through times that toss them off their regular schedule and into an abyss of lethargy, junk food, cocktails, etc. So it’s not really a matter of “if” this has happened to you, it’s “when” and “how long will you let it last?” that are the real critical questions. I’ve had some significant changes go on in my life over the past 3-4 months that have made a little shift in my lifestyle, but my biggest issues these last 2-3 weeks were vacations! We worked out, but with no plan. We tried to make good food decisions, but with zero accountability.
The result is a puffed up, frustrated version of my old self. The good news is I’m a nutritionist and experienced runner. And I know I can turn this around today.
I’m home now and ready to take this on before it gets too out of hand. Based on what I know and have learned from experience and other professionals, I can make a pretty killer plan. The trick is, sticking to it. This is a two part process that starts with a quick weight loss – 24 hour detox flush! Because I’m back from travel, I think a lot of this weight, isn’t actually fat. There was some garbage attached to water in there that was really causing some inflated scale metrics. This was my plan to flush it out so that I got an accurate start weight on the scale so I have a goal for my longer term plan.

- 5:30 am 1 cup black coffee and 16 oz water
- 6:00 am Hot Yoga + 30 min easy run
- 7:30 am 10 min Steam Room + Detox Juice + 16 oz water
- 9:30 am Detox Juice + 16 oz water
- 11:30 am Detox Nut Milk + 16 oz Water
- 1:30 pm Food: 1 cup quinoa, 1 cup black beans, 1/4 cup edamame (I just can’t handle being hungry)
- 4:00 pm Detox Juice + 16 oz water
- 6:30 pm Walk with Friend
- 8:30 pm Lean Protein Shake
- 9:00 pm Epsom Salt Bath + 16 oz
- 9:30 pm Dieters Tea
Here is some rationale on my decisions on what to include in my rapid weight loss – 24 hour flush plan:
The Juice Cleanse is great because it’s full of nutrition and flavor and it keeps you from thinking too much about food. I had the lemon and cayenne one just before I went for my hike and it was the least tasty of the group. But you know what, it really did the trick and I wasn’t hungry at all on our 2 hour voyage.
A healthy hike with a friend instead of dinner or happy hour is a great way to tip the caloric scales in your favor. Instead of eating 500 calories off plan, we burned them as we viewed scenic Torrey Pines. And our conversation is 100% interruption free, allowing us to get fully caught up on all the great happenings in our life.
I opted for a lean protein shake before bed instead of another juice because I wasn’t really getting the digestive rest benefits of the juice cleanse anyhow, since I’d had a healthy lunch. And after our long hike, I figured 17 g of protein would serve me well as I slept and let my body detox itself throughout the night.
Dieters tea is no joke! Be careful with it and only take it at night. I’m not exactly sure why or how it works, but it will clean you out in about 6-8 hours. So timing is critical. I had a friend who had to call in sick to work after taking it at the wrong time.
The rest of it is just drinking a gallon of water and flushing it out — taking garbage with it!
The end results of my quick weight loss – 24 hour detox flush?
I lost 4 lbs in 24 hours! Woot! My stomach feels flatter, I feel leaner and this was a great kick start! I have another good plan in place to slowly take off an additional 4-6 more pounds in the next 6 weeks as I train for my first race since Boston. I will share that plan too, as I’m pretty excited about it! But for today, I’m basking in the glow of my detox success and will share the longer term plan next week.
