This week’s Clean & Colorful Conversation is super fun! I’m shaking up a healthy Martini. Not only is it the perfect recipe for you this Halloween when passing out the candy, but it is also the perfect recipe for this entire month. The Clean and Colorful Spiced Pumpkin Latte Martini is a dessert style cocktail — the perfect trick-or-treat!

Last week we talked about the first universal diet which is eating more whole food; less stuff out of the box and more stuff out of the ground, and made Sweet Potato Hummus. This week we are talking about the second diet truth which is eating all five colors. I would have been on yellow, except that I really wanted to make this Martini so we’re doing orange again because it’s Fall and it’s the perfect time.

It is the one program that I feel anybody can do and everybody who does will in fact look better, feel better, naturally have more energy, reduce disease and probably even lose some weight. The Clean and Colorful Spiced Pumpkin Latte Martini

Generally, things made with pumpkin in the form of like coffee drinks and cocktails are not very natural and clean! So in this recipe there’s no added junk, there’s nothing overly processed. It’s a super clean recipe and very yummy. It’s perfect for tonight and is perfect between now and thanksgiving because it’s a dessert style cocktail. So what you’re doing is knocking two birds with one stone!

We don’t have a lot of room in our core budgets for desserts and cocktails. So if you can combine the two and end up with a really yummy satisfying cocktail, then it’s sort of like you’re multitasking.

Cocktail Tip: I’d also say that if you can’t see through a cocktail then you shouldn’t drink it. That means it’s full of really thick, high sugar not very good for your alcohols and other fatty creams. If it comes from me, it will be Clean and Colorful or skinny and will be the exception because I use very sneaky and tricky ingredients.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz of any flavored vodka that’s on the sweet side -this is going to give sweetness to the cocktail without having to add any sugar
  • 1 oz plain almond milk – to thicken it up
  • 1 TB 100% pure pumpkin – it’s going to give it a little bit of color and added fiber for nutrition
  • Vanilla – I didn’t have vanilla almond milk so I’m going to just add vanilla for extra flavor
  • Honey – if you want to add extra sweetness. Honey is my favorite sweetener
  • Pumpkin pie spice – is going to make it taste more like Fall and pie. It’s a combination of all types of Fall spices (ginger, cloves, allspice, nutmeg, cinnamon)
  • 1 1/2 oz coffee- for some reason coffee and pumpkin go together really well. It sounds weird but I have this pumpkin smoothie that features coffee and it’s really quite good.
  • Ice – in the cocktail shaker

That’s it. Shake up the ingredients.

Healthy Benefits of Pumpkin Puree

And right now pumpkin puree is everywhere on the store shelves, so pick it up and buy it. Pumpkin puree, even though it looks canned and processed is actually super clean and is a super-food,  just under the greens because it’s so vitamin and mineral nutrient dense. It has nutrients like:

  1. Iron
  2. Calcium
  3. Vitamin A
  4. Fiber

It’s not that expensive and when you read the ingredients it says ‘pumpkin’ meaning that you’re in good shape. This is how you can tell if a product has been highly processed or not. If the ingredients are actually food, then that is a good product to use. I use canned pumpkin in baked goods, soups, toss them into smoothies, coffee creamer and today I’m using it in a cocktail. This recipe is also in my Halloween tricks and treats blog post.

What I love about the clean and Colorful solutions is that you can make this on your pantry ingredients. We’re not using a lot of tricky weird stuff that’s hard to find. We are using things in your pantry that are clean and unprocessed that you may not have realized you could use in these ways.
