2014 Boston Marathon Training – Week 12 Recap

Well here we go! Only 21 until the 2014 Boston Marathon. This week was certainly no exception to the difficult training cycle I’ve been struggling with for the past month. But the reality of the situation is that “it is what it is” and theres not much more I can do now other than take really good care of myself. This will be a marathon of love — not performance 🙂

How I’m Feeling

Not that good. It was a really unfortunate time to get sick and lose essentially an entire week of training. I was out of commission until Wednesday. After nearly a week of no running I was really happy to get out there and jog and it felt great. Friday I was having mechanical issues. Left ankle, right knee, right hamstring and the bottom of my right foot is just burning in my new shoes. I have got to figure that out. Friday I decided to lift weights for the first time in like a month and it put my Saturday run right back on track.

Lessons Learned

I completely forgot how important weight training is in the process of marathon training. I don’t naturally love to do it. So it is always the first thing I skip when I run out of time or energy. I can actually go back and track these posts and when the weight lifting stopped, that is when my running stopped improving and things got harder. I will get back to at least two days a week for the rest of this training cycle.

Moving Forward

I need to get in one more long slow run. I think I’ll go for 20-22 mid week. Get a good 15 in this weekend and then 12 next weekend. I’d like 5-6 more good performance runs. Other than that its more about taking care of my body. I go 21 days now with no booze and no caffeine. Lots of rest, yoga, weights and water. I’m starting my Color Yourself Skinny 21-Day Diet Detox to make sure I get in the highest quality food. I am very excited about the idea of cleaning out this body. While this was a tough week for training, it was oh so much fun wine tasting in Temecula and bumping into everybody I know in San Diego for Opening Day at the park!
