As we kick up our heals and get ready to say sayonara to 2015, it’s officially time for some 2016 Goal Setting. Time to reflect on 2015 and define some resolutions and personally vow to be better versions of ourselves next year. I am a huge fan of fresh starts, clean slates and lofty personal and professional goals.
For the past several years I’ve published my Annual Goal Guide to help people do that, and it’s pretty awesome. I did update the guide this year, but I also have a simpler tool today to help you as you check in with yourself and consider how you want to proceed into 2016.
Successful People Begin with the End in Mind.
I’ve used that statement in so many ways through my small business consulting. But the other night, over Christmas dinner, we were playing one of those question games just for fun. And this question came up:
What do you want people to say about you at your funeral?
It’s so simple, and so effective. When you start to think about the end of things and how you want to leave the world and the impact you want to make, it can dramatically change they way you look at today.
Set yourself up for success in 2016
So in addition to the formal 2016 Goal Guide which you can download for free, print and complete at your leisure, I suggest you start the process by writing your own eulogy. While it might sound incredibly morbid, it’s actually quite the opposite. When you realize you still have time to do the things you want to do with your life, to behave the way you want to, to make the difference you want — to deliver your contribution, taking action is much, much easier. It almost becomes innate.
Are you ready to make 2016 the best year yet?
I sure am. I’m doing personal and professional and goal setting and kicking it off with Teresa Marie’s eulogy. I also picked up this awesome planner to manage my days from Commit 30 and a brand new tool for this year to help me be more strategic this year. It’s destine to be the #bestyearyet! Clearly, I’m excited! Are you?
Do you have a formal goal setting process for each year?
Is weight loss on your mind again in 2016?
