The Clean & Colorful Solution

My goal in life is to help you live a Clean & Colorful Lifestyle to help you feel better, look better, naturally have more energy, reduce disease and probably even lose some weight. And to make that a reality, I’m coming at you every Monday from my Clean & Colorful kitchen (well, most of the time from the kitchen) with some real life tips, tricks, and strategies to help you master the 4 Universal Diet Truths:

  1. Eat more whole food.
  2. Eat all 5 colors.
  3. Drink a juice/smoothie.
  4. Exercise at least 21+ minutes per day.

Every Monday I’ll touch on one of those topics that will help you feel better and look better. Last week I gave you my top tips to manage holiday spirits. Today, since it’s a Wednesday (it’s been a crazy week), and I don’t want to miss out on the opportunity to discuss New Year’s Resolutions, we’re going to deviate a bit.

But that’s ok!! I want to take this opportunity to talk about three things that can help you stay on track with your health and fitness New Year’s Resolutions. Let’s take that stat that says only 7% of people achieve their New Year’s Resolutions and blow that out of the water!

Tip #1: Choose Your Goal From a Place of Positivity

Often times when making goals we look at aspects of our lives that we don’t like, and focus on how we want our lives to look. For example, getting off of blood pressure medicine, losing weight, or cutting back on sugar. While these goals are positive they come from a negative place because we are ultimately taking something away.

These goals look backwards instead of coming from a place of positivity. So instead of saying I want to get off my blood pressure meds, which is taking something away, maybe focus on wanting to improve your health by adding more fruits and veggies to your diet. By working on increasing our veggie intake we’re focusing on the positive and adding to our lives.

So you want your goal to come from a place of positivity, and focus on where you want to go instead of where you have been. This helps keep your eye on the prize instead of forgetting what you’re working on halfway towards reaching your goal and giving up. If you’re goal right now is coming from the negative just flip it and you’re good to go!

Tip #2: Have a Plan

Like we all know…the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again while expecting a different result. Along those lines, if I decide to eat more veggies to improve my health and eventually get off my meds, I need a plan to get the veggies on my plate!

So what’s the plan?? The reason why I mention this is because I want you to think about that plan right now! Does it sound like fun? Since you’ve decided to eat more veggies, are you going to head to the farmer’s market every Sunday to explore the amazing local veggies and have fun cooking them for dinner?

If the answer is yes then you’re in great shape! But if you think your plan doesn’t sound like fun then you need to change it. You will not be more motivated than you are in this very moment, and your plan will just fade out from here.

Therefore, make sure your plan sounds like fun! Set yourself up for the most success you can possibly have. If losing 15 pounds means dragging yourself to the gym, and you’re all mopey about it then change your plan. Find a plan that makes you so excited that you cannot wait to go and achieve your goals.

Tip #3: Roll with the Punches

I wanted to touch on this because of an experience I had this morning. So quick story time for you. This morning I was about 22 minutes into my spin class when the power went out…wah, wah, wah. You’d think that the instructor would end class early and everyone would about their day, but that didn’t happen. This instructor kept on teaching class without music or fans which isn’t ideal, but we got through it! And I must say, this ended up being a pretty cool experience.

So we need to learn how to be flexible, and realize that our plans will not always pan out exactly as we expect them to. If the power goes out in your spin class then figure it out! Find a way to get over barriers and just get through it. This is why having a good goal and plan you love doing will help you get there.
