That’s what BowFlex Body promises with its first stab at delivering a new product in the nutrition space. You remember BowFlex, right? The infomercial that came on after Saturday morning cartoons in the 80s for their classic Bowflex® Home Gym system. They actully have a full line of fitness equipment these days are are still industry leaders, and now they are taking a stab at the nutrition market!
The world is not short on protein powders.
I can’t say that I would be interested in launching a protein powder product right now as the market seems to be saturated. However, this one did catch my eye because of the unique versatility of the concept. Sometimes there is a product that tries to do it all, boost immunity, build muscle and burn fat. And not all of that is interesting to everybody, we have priorities, right?
What makes BowFlex Body unique?
They let you pick your goals and give you “boosts” to add to your shake depending on what they are. It reminds me of Jamba Juice. You have your yummy shake, and you get to pick the bonus nutrition you want to add. Everybody starts with the basic French Vanilla shake (125 calories, 6g fiber, 15g protein). Then you choose to add:
- Fat Burner+, Rich Chocolate flavor (10 calories, 2g fiber, 0g protein)
- Protein + Peanut Butter flavor (80 calories, 2g fiber, 10g protein)
- Antioxidant+, Mixed Berry flavor (10 calories, 2g fiber, 0g protein)
How have I been using BowFlex Body?
I included it in my June Goals, as I am a protein shake nut! As you probably know by now because I have a dozen recipes on my blog. I’ve been using the protein+ with the peanut butter which really is tasty. I like it as a post workout meal because I get in my 20+ g of protein, it’s just under 300 calories, and it’s refreshing. I also sneak in a frozen banana and handful of spinach to boost the phytochemical power just a bit more. Try this out:
Protein Power Pack Smoothie Recipe
- 1 scoop Bowflex Body French Vanilla Fitness Shake
- 1 packet Bowflex Body Protein+ Peanut Butter Shake Boost
- 1 cup raw Spinach*
- 1/2 frozen Banana
- 1 cup Ice
- 1 cup Water
Directions: Add all ingredients to your high speed blender and hit “smoothie.” If you’re using a regular blender, start at low for 10 seconds, increase to medium for 10 seconds then blend at high speed for 20 seconds.
*The spinach turns it a kind of funny color, but trust me, you cannon taste it. It adds 7 calories, nearly a gram of fiber and protein along with 56% of your Vitamin A, 14% of your Vitamin C, and 5% of your Iron and about a zillion phytochemicals.
