Ready for a Juice Cleanse — but no Juicer or Time to Spare?

If you follow my blog, you know I’m a fan of detoxes and cleanses because I think life it toxic and it’s an essential part of health and happiness. I am kind of the queen of detox and retox…so this post is here to help. Read on for a solution to a huge barrier to juice cleansing and all the way to the bottom for one of my most favorite, health-boosting breakfast recipes ever!

Any plan I write to help people “detox” or “cleanse” their system will always include fresh juices and/or smoothies…at least one a day. Color Yourself Skinny 21-Day Diet Detox and Eat. Drink & be Skinny’s 3-Day Liquid Detox are perfect examples. The raw enzymes and highly alkaline forming substance really does give you a natural buzz that can’t be matched.

People always ask me “I want to do a juice cleanse, but I don’t have a juicer. What should I do?”

And I always reply, maybe it’s time to get one? Or I’ll suggest you purchase pre-made juices from a high quality vendor that can ensure it’s not over-processed sugar water and it won’t oxidize, killing the nutrients.

Or “I want to do a juice cleanse, but I work all day, how do I keep my juices from going bad?”

And when that is the case, I’ll provide some details on how you can stretch the life of your own juice, but also recommend looking outside the kitchen. Again, for a brand that can offer a high quality juice that was specially produced to allow the nutrients to last longer.

This has always frustrated me a bit…

Because I like to provide solutions that are highly actionable and “go find a juice cleanse that you can buy, that is high quality, not full of sugar and water…” isn’t really an actionable solution. I’ve been looking for a partner I could recommend in both of these situations that I could respect and trust would take good care of my readers. Good news!

I found the Suju Juice Cleanses!

They sell these at my gym and Suja is a local San Diego company. I actually first heard of the brand from my friend Kate, an active runner gal-pal of mine who swears by the quality of their product. So I looked into them and woot! What an awesome variety of products they offer and super affordable packages for juices cleansing!

Suja Juice Cleans

I want to repair, rejuvenate and rest!

You probably already know this, but juicing for 1-5 days is really a nice way to “reset” your system so to speak. It takes work for your body to digest whole food. Special enzymes need to be created to break down the macronutrients and pull out the micronutrients and phytochemicals. When you drink raw juice, the work is done, essentially giving your digestive system a rest and allowing your body the time to work on creating other enzymes that do beauty-boosting things like fight aging and disease. Awesome!

3lbs? Talk about efficiency.

Why are Juices Cleanses so Expensive?

Sometimes people are surprised at the price of juice cleanses. Let me save you the time of research and let you know that you will not find a quality juice cleanse for less than $55 a day and in fact, most are upwards of $70. You may find a coupon for a special — where the company is taking a loss to acquire you as a customer. But the fact of the matter is, juice is expensive because there is so much in there! Most juices cleanses are 6 juices a day — at about 3lbs of veggies each you’re looking at nearly 20 lbs of produce! You can save a little bit of money by juicing yourself — I do. But I happen to be lucky to have the time in my kitchen to do so.

Suja’s Juice Cleanse is very competitively priced*

Suja’s 1-Day Fresh Start program is only $55, 3-Days for $162 and 5-Days for $270. I was actually surprised to see them priced so competitively as a package. A la carte at my gym they are like $12 each.

Juice Cleanse with Real Food!

The other thing I LOVE about Suja is that their Essential Fresh Start program has just three juices and includes real food. And it’s awesome! It’s actually where I found the inspiration for these raw oatmeal jars that I have been wanting to share forever! I make a few in advance, put them in the fridge and I have super easy, high quality breakfast on hand and ready to go. This is seriously one of my favorite recipes ever!

Hi Teresa! I was wondering about the Raw oatmeal jars… How long do they stay good for in the fridge? Thank you 🙂 It looks SO yummy!!

Hi Sarah! That is a great question and I hate to confess, but I don’t really have a solid answer because I’ve never left them in there long enough to go “bad.” I have made them up to 3 days in advance. I bet they are good for at least 5, but I don’t think I’d stock up like several weeks at a time. I feel like the oats and the chia continue to soak up the milk and they’ll get a funnier consistency. But if you try it out – let me know. We are in this one together 😉 Cheers!

And they are yummy!! And so easy to make a few at at time, you’ll hardly notice the extra work 🙂

      • Sarah Hussey

Thank you for the recipe Teresa! Made them last night for this morning!! LOVE it 🙂 Very tasty and easy, like you said 🙂 YUMM!! I was in a hurry this morning after my workout, and it was so nice to have my breakfast already made! And filling! Thanks again!

        • Teresa

Sarah you inspired me today! I just made a batch of these again 🙂 I’ve been having too many bars in the am. While I pick good ones, it just feels better to have real/raw food in the morning. I added dried cranberries and chopped walnuts this time around. Yum! I’m so glad you liked them and thank you for the update and inspiration today 🙂

Yeay!! That’s so nice to hear, thank you 🙂 One of the things that I love about fitness and nutrition blogs is that we help one another out- no one is in this alone. Plus, for the most part, everyone is so upbeat because we are all feeling good being healthy 🙂 I hope you have a wonderful weekend! Do you have any kids? I have one son, and he is so excited to give me what he made in art class for Mother’s Day 🙂 He is in 1st grade, and I just love this age 🙂

Hi Teresa- Sorry to keep “bugging” you, but I had another question regarding the oatmeal… My sister liked it, but was wondering if it is okay to heat it up? I didn’t know if it would do anything with the chia seeds if it was headed up or not… Thank you!!!

          • Teresa

You are anything but bugging me Sarah! And I’m sorry I didn’t get back to your other comment from Friday. I’m not particularly active on the weekends usually 🙂 I’ve added chia seeds to traditional oatmeal before. I add them at the end after it’s cooked. But the beauty of this recipe is that you don’t have to cook it, which is why it’s so simple! And another note — the ones I made last week are still in my fridge so I’m getting a test for how long they will last. They are on day 5 now and the one I had this am was more delicious than on day 2. I can’t believe there is no added sweetener in there. I think the dried cranberries are adding more flavor than I had expected. I may have to do a new post focused on just these jars because they are seriously my favorite healthy, on-the-go breakfast now 🙂

Can you share the nutritional information for the added cranberries and walnuts if you have it? I have just recently discovered your site and I am energized by what I have read! Ready to embark on my first juice cleanse – and after that plan on using this recipe – it sounds fantastic!
