If time is our most precious and truly our only limited commodity, then energy becomes essential when we’re looking at making the most of it. Right? I mean, we only get 24 hours in each day to get EVERYTHING done. When you’re low on energy and you can’t make the most of your time, it’s like literally taking a pay-cut in life. My goal as a health coach is to help you feel your best so you can do your best — and have fun while you’re at it 😉
That is why I created the Clean & Colorful solution and that is why I review products that might help you along your healthy and happy journey. When 5-hour ENERGY® Protein asked me to take a look at their product, I was like “heck ya!” Here’s the recap on the product and how you might use it to fuel a productive and busy day!
What is 5-hour ENERGY® Protein?
5-hour ENERGY® Protein shots are protein and energy in one. Each shot has 21 grams of protein, the energy you need for the rest of your day, and a hundred little calories. The six ounce bottle fits your busy lifestyle, and there are four flavors – Berry, Cherry, Grape Extra Strength and Berry Extra Strength.
What’s cool about 5-hour ENERGY® Protein?
While you may or may not care about the science behind the energy formula, it’s a pretty interesting and unique product. I can’t really think of anything that it competes with directly. Here’s the 411:
- It has a bunch of energy inducing and supporting substances as well as goodies to help you function.
- It has 21-g of protein from whey and vegetable sources.
- It has 100 calories.
- It does not require refrigeration until opened and it’s a small 6 oz serving that can fit in any gym bag or purse.
Essentially, it’s a solution that provides energy and protein for 100 calories in an easy to-go, 6oz serving!
What’s in 5-hour ENERGY® Protein?
- Choline Bitartrate
- N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine (NALT)

How to use 5-hour ENERGY® Protein
If you have it after a workout…
This is actually the tricky part. I recommend protein supplements after a workout because getting 20g of high quality protein in right after a workout is essential for recovery, muscle repair and growth. But the product contains no added sugar, so it’s not a sufficient exercise recovery solution a la carte as glycogen also needs to be replenished. If you do use it after a workout, toss it in the blender with some fruit or drink it along with a banana.
Would you have it before a workout?
It’s not generally recommended to have protein prior to a workout, when you would want this energy boost, so I wouldn’t recommend downing it just before a casual workout either, but a good idea several hours before.
I think the ideal time to have the product…
Would be later in the am or earlier in the afternoon when you are looking for a sweet snack and an energy boost. This is a way better option than a handful of M&Ms, a cookie or soda. It would also be good alongside your morning snack to provide additional satiation and energy.
A stellar back up plan for anybody on the go!
It’s oh-so-portable and convenient packaging also makes it the perfect back up plan for us busy folks on the go.
