“Well the weather outside is frightful, and the fire is so delightful…” sings one of our favorite Christmas songs. Now, what the heck is a hopeful or active fittie to do for winter exercise? Getting outdoors to get your basic necessities is tough enough in 3 inches of snow, and you want to put in a recreational workout on top of that? Well, the simple answers is yes. Fitness is a perennial concept. Different climates certainly make it more difficult to get out there and get moving, but that’s no reason to let winter put you into an exercise hiatus while the snow falls.

Do the “Housework Workout” at least once a week.
This is hilarious and highly effective. And it’s not limited to just winter exercise, this should be done year round! Next time you’re cleaning your house, be sure to put on your favorite music and your workout clothes while you’re at it. Then set a timer to go off every 5-10 minutes. The time would depend on how much cleaning versus how much working out you want to do. Each time the buzzer goes off, you do one of the following exercises:
- 20 pushups in the dining room
- 50 crunches on your bathroom mat
- 20 lunges in the living room
- 3 jaunts up and down the stairs (or 45 seconds of high knees)
- 25 triceps dips on a kitchen chair
- 10 burpees in the bedroom
One round of the circuit will get you 30-60 minutes of great house cleaning. Repeat it as many times as you need to until your house is wiped clean or you are wiped out. Recruit somebody to help you. The cleaning will get done faster and you’ll have way more fun! The best part of this workout is that you have a clean house after you’re done and you can just sit back and relax!
